Welcome Home

Sorry for the lack of creativity around here!  In the past month I had two (!) beach vacations with family.  So I've been a busy beach bum.  It was so wonderful to spend time with my dad and sister.  They live across the country from me and I never see them.  It's even harder with a new baby that they never see.  But I'm home   now and it's back to reality, and a lot more sewing!  I have a lot on my to do list and I'm really missing my  machine, so I'm thinking it's going to be a very productive week.  That and it's going to be too hot to be outside with the little man or rainy.  I'm actually looking forward to some rainy days, making me feel less bad about being inside sewing!

I did have some exciting mail when I got home!  Look at all the wonderfulness that came to me!

Some scraps from a fellow guild member, love that Tufted Tweets!  Thanks Lori!

Amanda, one of my twitter friends, sent me this great set of squares.  She even included some candy, with pink starburst, my fav!  Thanks Amanda!
And then I was in a swap on Flickr with 6 others.  Look at all the great goodies I got!

This one came from Norway!  You can't tell but the long strip has these cute dutch people on it.  Love!
This came from Bek who lives in Australia.  She added some ribbons and buttons too.  She sent some fabulous bright wonderful fabrics!
Chloeandme sent this great package.  Look at those teeny tiny hexagons!
And she included this key chain.  I couldn't imagine putting it on my keys getting dirty.  So I decided it would make a perfect sewing machine charm!  Thank you so much!!!
I still have quite a few packages to come (and I have to get to the post office to mail mine out!)   So excited about all the different squares for my hexagon quilt!  I love all the different fabrics from all around the world.

Thanks for letting me give these little shout outs!  Now back to my regular blogging!

Hexagon Update

I promise that I'm not going to only talk about hexagons around here.  It is all I have to show right now.  There are 230 done and I've started putting them together. At night, before bedtime, the only place little man wants to sleep is in my arms. Cute, but when I want to sew or do anything other than watch TV it gets a little frustrating.  I found a way to make hexagons while holding him.  Now I can sew and everyone is happy!

I have decided that in the middle of each month I'm going to share an update on how the hexagons are going.

I do have a quilt all finished that I only have to hand sew the binding down.  Hopefully I'll have it finished  to show by the end of the week.

3x6 Bee Blocks Done!

I finished my 3x6 Bee blocks!  I hope my bee gals like them. Now I just have to make it to the post office!

It was a very fun bee and I'm looking forward to round 3 (round 2 for me!)  The trickiest part was using your own fabrics.  With so many shades of colors I just hope that what I have chosen with coordinate with the rest of their quilts.  But other than that it was a very low pressure bee.  I can't wait to get my blocks!

Blogger's Quilt Festival 2011

Amy's Creative Side

It's time again for the Blogger's Quilt Festival over at Amy's Creative Side and this year I have entered.  So if you are stopping in while browsing all the beautiful quilts then welcome!  If you are a regular reader you have seen this quilt before, but I just love it so much!

When we first moved in we had white walls and white carpet.  We first painted the walls this rich brown color and I loved it!  Then a year later we ripped up the carpet and added a dark brown hardwood floor.  Looks pretty.  But the floor combined with the walls and the brown couch  it was just WAYYY too much brown for any one room.  At the same time we have been looking for artwork to go over our couch.  We have been looking for 3 years and everything was either too expensive or too small (it's a big wall).  Duh!  Why don't I just make a quilt?  So that's what I did.  I had gotten Boo Davis' "Dare to be Square" book for Christmas and her Two Left Feet pattern jumped out at me for the perfect wall quilt, and it was big so it would cover my whole wall.
Now I don't feel as I'm living in a solid brown room as much!  I still need pillows to match.  I plan to make some with my left over Nest layer cake pieces from when I made this quilt.  Don't mind the puppy in the pictures.  I just couldn't get him to stay off the couch!
Thanks for stopping by!  And be sure to check out all the other amazing quilters in the festival!

Another Great Mail Day

Jodi from JoJoMia's Place and I had a little 2 1/2 inch square swap.  She's working on a Grandma's Garden quilt and was in need of more prints for her hexagons.  I was so excited to swap.  She sent me lots of squares and not a single one was a repeat of what I already had!

There was even a lot of Central Park in the bunch.  A fabric line I love but I didn't have any.  I was so happy!

Thank you for the squares Jodi!!

Handsome Pants V2.0

Little man had outgrown his handsome pants so it was time to make some new ones!  I used the large blue and green plaid DS fabric from Joanns with the small green check as the reverse side.

They are going to be perfect for his big brunch after his Baptism...but of course we will try them out when we go to the beach first!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mommies out there!  Enjoy your day.  I think a trip to the park, some sewing time and dinner with my mom and grandma are in order!

Linking up to Sew Many Ways Sew Darn Crafty Party.  Go check out all of the other crafty projects this week!

I Can't Believe It

I had put a post up about my hexagon adventure and one of the sweetest bloggers had replied to me. Sara from Sew Sweetness really lives up to her name! We arranged a swap for scraps.   I was so excited.  Then Wednesday when I went out to the mailbox I found this:
Really?!?  A MEDIUM flat rate box?!  I couldn't believe my eyes.
Holy Moly look at the mountain of fabric spilling out of that box.  I still can't believe how much she sent me.  It was the most generous thing.  I didn't have nearly as much to send her, I wish I had more to give to her.  Thank you so much Sara!

Go check out Sara's blog and look at the wonderful dresses she makes.  She has also been hosting awesome sew alongs for those who are nervous at making things other than quilts.  The Jamie Dress Sew Along just ended and there were some amazing dresses created, I LOVED Sara's Amy Butler dress.  Amazing!

Little Update

K*D Quilts is now on Facebook!  There's not much there...yet!

And for a little hexagon update: my case is slowly filling up!   The bottom rows are groups of 10 and haven't been marked off on my chart that I'm using to keep count of how many I have made.  Once I mark them off I put the hexagons in the top rows in groups of 20.  Once I fill up the rows I'm going to start sewing them together.  That way I know it'll get made and won't be so intimidating. This has been such a fun project and I will say it is quite addictive.  I have been loving cutting my little 2 1/2 inch squares and seeing how the fabric changes once it's cut smaller.  It's a good thing I'm loving this because I have a lot more to do!

Easter Vacation

Things have been quiet around here. Last week we packed up the baby and ventured out to the beach for a family vacation with my Dad. It was absolutely wonderful! Days spent walking on the beach and laying out at the pool. Evenings were filled with good food and fun games. The week went way too fast and we weren't ready to leave! Luckily we get to go back in a few weeks! : )

I won't have much time to sew this week. I have to finish that slideshow this week. Hopefully adding music and video won't be too difficult! As soon as it's finished back to the sewing machine I go!
