Goodbye Blogger.....Hello Domain

The time has come for me to say goodbye to Blogger.  It has been great, but it's time to move on.
For my birthday I finally got my domain name!  (yay!)  I have been set up to make K*D Quilts what I want it to be and not be limited by Blogger. 
Unfortunately for you this means you will have to update your readers since I will no longer be posting over here. So hop on over to www.kd-quilts.com and follow me there...you won't be disappointed!  Along with the new site there are going to be tutorials, a new look (still in the works), and maybe a giveaway (!)

Baby Stuff

When I was getting all of that welcome baby stuff Pampers had sent me a free diaper case.  It was satiny and cute with polka dot and of course a big Pampers logo at the top.  It works just fine, but a diaper case could be so much better.

 I used some of my DS Picnics and Fairgrounds to make my case.  I drafted my pattern using one of the diapers we had around here as a size guide.  (Would anyone be interested in a tutorial?)  It was fairly quick to make up, the longest part was quilting the straight lines and I suppose you wouldn't even really need those.  I love how it turned out and can't wait to make more.  What a perfect baby shower gift!

FWQAL Week something or another

I've gotten busy.  And with that busy came no time for being a Farmer's Wife.  These past few weeks I only got two blocks done.  Hopefully I'll have more time to get some more done soon.

 Block 21: Contrary Wife

I loved using the ultra girly colors in this block.  Being the only girl in the house, I need that little bit of girlishness every once in a while!

Block 22: Corn and Peas

With a name like corn and peas I had to use these colors, a little bit of corn and peas!  I was dreading making this block with all those little pieces.  And I don't think it turned out all that well and I don't know what it is exactly that bothers me about it.  They can't all be your favorite, right?

A home for an iPhone

 One of my most favorite customers had just bought an iPhone.  It was getting lost in her purse and was afraid of it getting all scratched and yucky.  Well, I had the perfect solution for her!  I made her this case.  It fits the phone very snugly for a safe and non-bulky fit.  I also added a handle to make it easier to carry around.  I didn't want to take away from the birds too much so I just used a simple straight line quilting.  I love how it turned out.  I think my iPhone needs a home too!

This past month I entered AnneMarie's Summer Fair over at Gen X Quilters.  I was so excited when she had posted the winners of some great prizes.  I received this great bundle from Fresh Squeezed Fabrics.  I am going to make something great for little guy with the green, I think I see a new Nook cover for me  with the purple and I know a special little girl who could use a little treat using the pinks.

On Cloud 9

 Look at these beautiful fabrics!  They are the newest line for Cloud 9 Fabrics called Across the Pond.  I love them all...especially that Huron.  There are so many possibilities with these prints.

Things will be a little quiet around here for the next few weeks.  It's because of these fabrics.  I'm working on a top secret project for Cloud 9 and I can't give any sneaks until it's all finished.  Trust me, it's going to be amazing!  I'm very excited about this quilt!!

Until then, I have a few scheduled posts and a guest blogging post so it won't be completely quiet here.

3x6 Bee Blocks Done!

Here are my 3x6 bee blocks.  I love them so much and they have inspired me to create a quilt based on this.  So far it's turning out AWESOME!  Check back soon for a finish!

4x5 Bee Blocks Finished!

This is the 1st go around (but we're in the 3rd quarter) of the 4x5 bee.  It's the same concept as the popular 3x6 but this one is dedicated to all things modern (3x6 has a little of everything, but still mostly modern)  I got my blocks finished WAY before deadline.

 

This block started out WAYY different.  I had originally planned a basket weave type block, but it was a little more wonky and improved weave.  It was really cool in my head.  I did a test block and it was a big, giant fail.  I was not a fan!  So I played around with the cut pieces and came up with this block.  It's quite simple, nothing flashy.  I like how they turned out and I liked the process of playing around with the pieces.  Thanks to all my Twitter friends for input on these along the way.  Extra eyes are always nice to have!  I hope my fellow bees like their blocks!  Now to just get to the post office!

Misfit Quilters

There's a little group over at Twitter that is the Misfit Quilters.  I was a little late joining in with these gals (I was late to Twitter all together!)  But I'm there now, and I'm participating in a swap with the other Misfit Quilters.

 

We made the Little Forest Quilt pattern  by Purl  Bee.

To be honest, I only wanted to make this pattern in greens/Christmas tree quilt.  I decided a rainbow forest would be alright after all.  So then I had to use purple since that is my color. I was still a little bummed about not having a Christmas forest until I made my trees.  I LOVE THEM!  After I made the first one it reminded me of a Charlie Brown Aluminum Christmas tree.  It can still be a Christmas tree quilt after all!  It's going to be a funky, mod forest of aluminum Christmas trees and I am so very excited!  I can't wait to see what everyone else has made!

Kaleidoscope Quilt Along Finish

I did it!  I finished my Kaleidoscope Quilt on time with the quilt along.  But more importantly, I have a something to share that's not just a block!  Aren't you excited!?! 

I must say I LOVED making this quilt!  Elizabeth's instructions were so super clear and the pieces all went together so fast.  I'm thinking of making the baby sized one to have on hand (unless I decide my son needs more quilts!)  If you were thinking of ever making a Kaleidoscope Quilt I highly recommend using Elizabeth's Quilt Along (you can make it at your own pace at any time)

I used my loved Amy Butler Soul Blossoms stash for this quilt.  It was hard to cut it up, but I think this is my most favorite quilt ever so that makes it all worth it!  I decided to have the centers of my pieces all the same.  It gave the quilt a little order.

I was going to use one of the rows and make a pieced back, but then decided to use it to add some extra length.  I'm really tall and I like my quilts to cover my toes but also cover my shoulders when I'm stretched out.  This quilt does that AND there's still room to spare!  PERFECT!!

For the back and binding I just used some solids.  The back is a greenish blue (matches part of the Soul Blossoms line wonderfully)  I used a BRIGHT pink solid for the binding.  I love the pop it gives against that back and the white on the front.

FWQAL Week 9

Well it seems as though my Wednesday posts for the Farmer's Wife have turned into Thursday posts.  Which I guess is the luxury of these blocks.  They just get done when there's a little down time, and if they don't no biggie.  It's not going to be done for a year anyway! 

 Block 19: Checkerboard

I really liked the stack of fabrics I had picked for this block.  However, when I put them together I wasn't too crazy about it.  I don't hate it, it's just not the same love I had before I put it together.  Also, this is my first block with solids (!) I think it's time to use some more!

Block 20: Churn Dash

I like this block a lot.  I like the colors, I liked putting it together.  It's just all around a good block!

Summer Fair Quilt Show

I want to share with all of you my Summertime Picnic quilt.  Summertime Picnic was a pattern that I designed to show off larger prints that you love.  It is a very quick and easy pattern (great for beginners too!)

The back was made with one of the darker prints so there wouldn't be fear in sitting it on the grass for picnic time.

I used fabrics from DS line for Joanns: Picnics and Fairgrounds.  I really love this line for summertime sewing (and even better that you can get it with a 50% off coupon!) and can't wait for her next Joanns line next month!

Since this is a quilt and recipie show and I'm showing a picnic quilt, I thought I would share my favorite picnic recipe:

My Family's Deviled Eggs

My family has made deviled eggs like this for generations.  I'm funny about my eggs and this is the ONLY way to make them in my opinion!

You need:

Eggs (however many you want, 1 egg = 2 deviled eggs.  I usually boil 9)

Mayo (Helmans is best)

Mustard

Vinegar

Paprika

• Boil eggs as you normally would
• Slice eggs in half, put yolks in bowl and put the white halves on a pretty egg plate
• In bowl with yolks add 1 lid full of vinegar (about 1 tablespoon), decent squirt of mustard (more or less to taste) and a big glob of mayo (about 1 cup) and salt and pepper.  Mix all until yolks aren't chunky.
• Put a spoonful of mixture into the sliced egg halves.
• Sprinkle paprika on top
• Refridgerate

There you now have the BEST egg recipe ever.  At my house we make these for all holidays and anytime there is going to be burgers on the grill!  And we have to make a lot since there isn't a single person who won't eat at least 3!  Enjoy!

On a Roll

It seems like I have somehow had a lot of extra sewing time this week.  I was able to make a great new E Reader case this morning.   I love this case!  It's roomy enough to have a leather sleeve on my Nook and store the charger as well.  The inside is made with soft Minky for that extra little bit of protection.

 

I'm loving this Summertime fabric.  I'm thinking I might have to get some more!

Did you think....

....that I forgot how to sew anything other than hexagons and Farmer's Wife blocks?

Well finally I have something else to share!  I was playing around with  designing templates in Word and then piecing them together.  I had so much fun I didn't stop at one and made three!  I did some more playing around and have 3 more template designs to make!

This one reminds me of sitting on a farm enjoying a yummy cup of coffee!

FWQAL Week 8

I'm only a day late for my Wednesday update post!  Pretty impressive since I have been out of town this past week.  We packed up and went to visit family and have A's christening.  It was a wonderful week, and it's been hard adjusting our schedules to get back on track.  I did manage to get my Farmer's Wife blocks done today.  

 Block 17: Cats and Mice

This block was fun to do.  I was not very excited about those teeny, tiny triangles but it went a lot faster than I thought it would!

Block 18: Century of Progress

This is one of my favorite blocks.  It went together really fast and I like how sometimes when I look at it I see the purple star, but other times I see an orange cross.  I kinda want to make this block in a bunch of different fabrics and see how they change it!

Hexagon Update Month 3

3 months into my crazy hexagon adventure and I'm still going strong!  I have pieced together 330 individual hexagons.  2 100 blocks have been finished and all put together.  The other 130 are just pieced together in rows of 10.
